Work Based
Learning

The One City: Future Ready internship was established to serve as a bridge between the City of Columbia and Richland School District One to provide career opportunities, exposure and development for students who’ve expressed interest in being career ready during and after high school. Due to the success of the 2021 pilot program which was exclusive to students interested in CDL opportunities, this work-based learning program has since expanded to include multiple departments within the City of Columbia.

Internship Eligibility
Requirements

One City: Future Ready is open for application for  students ages 16 and over enrolled in Richland School District One’s work-based learning program.

Students under consideration will have to complete a City of Columbia application, attend the One City: Future Ready Career Fair, interview with the City of Columbia’s partnering departments and successfully pass a background check.

Students receiving job offers through the partnership will obtain a summer internship from June 2024 to August 2024. Students can work up to 120
hours, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Alumni Story

Jose Olvera (left) and Bobby Johnson (right) welcome Tyler Clark (center) to Fleet Services.   Tyler is a rising junior at Heyward Career and Technology Center’s Diesel Technology Program.  He was highly recommended by Mr. Martin Butler his Diesel Technology Instructor at Heyward.  We have been very pleased with Tyler’s efforts and performance during his short time here.  We would also like to thank Dr. Charnice Starks-Ray (Richland One) and the City of Columbia for developing the One City: Future Ready partnership that afford Richland One students an opportunity to earn while they learn in desired career pathways. This collaboration made way for Tyler to join our team.
